Vision Exams & Glasses

Today's hectic, fast-paced lifestyles sometimes make it difficult to find time for ourselves. Still, we recognize the importance of diet and exercise, and take reasonable measures to maintain our health. Unfortunately, many people don't realize the importance of an annual eye exam. Many San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County residents only schedule an eye exam when a problem arises with their eyes. However, an annual eye exam is an important part of maintaining not only your eye health, but your general health as well.

At Pacific Eye, we have 8 fully staffed locations to make your eye exam as quick and convenient as possible. To make an appointment for an eye exam or to discuss your vision concerns, contact lenses, or eye glasses in the San Luis Obispo area, request an appointment online, or call (805) 545-8100.

Eye Exams

During your annual eye exam, our doctors will check all aspects of your vision and eye health, typically in less than an hour. We will begin with the front of the eye, examining the lids, cornea, conjunctiva, and iris. Then, using a special high-powered lens, we will view inside of your eye to carefully examine the retina, optic nerve, macula, and more. Our doctors are highly trained to detect even the earliest signs of conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, corneal ulcers, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration.

An eye exam can also reveal other health problems, including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Fortunately, many of the problems detected in your eye exam can be successfully treated, especially if detected early. Based on the results of your exam, our doctors will recommend a treatment plan for you.

If your exam reveals that you need vision correction, you can choose to wear corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses, or to undergo a surgical procedure such as Intralase™ LASIK to permanently correct your vision. People who choose to wear contact lenses also need a pair of eyeglasses to put on quickly when necessary or simply to give their eyes an occasional rest from wearing contact lenses. In addition, those who undergo LASIK may need corrective lenses for reading to correct age-related presbyopia.

At Pacific Eye, you can satisfy all of your eye care needs without leaving the Central Coast. At most of our 8 locations, you will find an optical shop, featuring some of the most comfortable and fashionable frames available. In addition, Pacific Eye has its own optical laboratory in Santa Maria, providing:

  • Faster service
  • Complete quality control
  • Quick turnaround for eyeglasses, sometimes the same day
