Glaucoma

Is Your Eye Health at Risk Without You Knowing It?

Glaucoma has earned its reputation as the “silent thief of sight” because it causes irreversible damage long before most people notice vision changes. The best defense? Early detection. With modern diagnostics and regular screenings, you can protect your sight and live with confidence.

At Pacific Eye Surgeons, our mission is to deliver comprehensive exams and personalized care, combining traditional expertise with today’s most innovative diagnostic technology.

Why Early Glaucoma Screening Matters

Glaucoma develops when the optic nerve is damaged—most commonly due to increased eye pressure. Without timely care, the condition may lead to permanent blindness. Identifying the disease in its earliest stages makes all the difference.

Take Our Glaucoma Self-Test

Not sure if you’re at risk? Our Glaucoma Self-Test is a quick, simple way to check your symptoms and risk factors from home. It’s not a substitute for a professional eye exam, but it can help you decide if it’s time to schedule a glaucoma evaluation.

Common Questions:

  • Are there warning signs? No—most patients won’t notice changes until vision is already lost.
  • Who is vulnerable? Adults over 60, those with family history, high eye pressure, diabetes, or certain ethnic backgrounds.
  • When should screenings begin? Every 1–2 years after age 40, or sooner if you have risk factors.
  • Is glaucoma curable? No, but early management can protect the vision you still have.
  • What tests are used? OCT, tonometry, gonioscopy, visual field exams, and help uncover glaucoma early.

Advanced Technology: Tools That See What You Can’t

  • OCT Imaging: Maps optic nerve fibers with extreme precision.
  • Tonometry: Measures intraocular pressure painlessly.
  • Gonioscopy: Examines drainage angles to classify glaucoma type.
  • Visual Field Testing: Identifies subtle blind spots before they’re noticeable.

Cutting-Edge Care, Personalized for You

With tools like OCT and RadiusXR, we not only diagnose earlier but also create customized care strategies. This ensures:

  • Timely Intervention to slow disease progression
  • Tailored Treatments matched to your risk and lifestyle.
  • Preservation of Vision to maintain your independence and quality of life.

Advanced Treatment Options

One of the newest and most exciting innovations in glaucoma care is the iDose® TR implant. This tiny, FDA-approved device is placed inside the eye during a quick, minimally invasive procedure. Once in place, it slowly and consistently releases travoprost, a well-established glaucoma medication, directly where it’s needed to lower intraocular pressure (IOP).

Unlike daily eye drops that depend on patient consistency and can sometimes cause irritation, the iDose® implant provides continuous 24/7 medication delivery. This helps ensure stable pressure control without the ups and downs that can happen when doses are missed.

Key Benefits of iDose® TR include:

  • Sustained Pressure Control: Provides long-term medication release for consistent management of IOP.
  • Reduced Dependence on Drops: Many patients can reduce or even eliminate the need for daily glaucoma eye drops.
  • Improved Comfort & Convenience: Less irritation from topical medications and freedom from remembering daily applications.
  • Peace of Mind: Helps patients who struggle with compliance maintain better glaucoma control over time.

The iDose® implant is designed to last for years and can be replaced with another implant once its medication reservoir is depleted, offering a long-term treatment pathway for suitable patients.
